The United Church Of Christ Women's Florida Conference
Women's ministry in the national setting of the United Church of Christ celebrates women in all their diversity. We cherish and work to be advocates on behalf of all women, lay and clergy, the young and the not as young! We see our task as a sharing one: sharing the incredible strengths and resources found in United Church of Christ women so that we may better be about carrying out God's ministry and mission in the world.
We give thanks that women's ministries is a partnership with each of you. Part of the partnership is hearing from you, through e-mail, regular mail or your responses to our focus inquiry questionnaire. Women are wonderfully creative and we are certain that a great deal is happening in your Conferences, Associations and local churches that would be of interest to other women and we invite you to share that information with us.

A Special Thank You To The Choir at
Church of the Open Door
The UCC Florida Conference would like to support flood survivors in Northern Florida and the Panhandle region by supplying them with insect repellant!
The drawback about living in such a large state is that we often don’t know who our neighbors are? Did you know that in April of THIS YEAR the President declared parts of Northern Florida and the Panhandle a Federal Disaster Area? That’s right our fellow residents are in need! As of May 7th, 2009 ...659 homes in 12 counties had reported damages from storms, tornadoes, winds and excessive flooding that occurred in late March and early April, AND more accounts are expected to roll in.
Though our UCC churches in the area (Pensacola Beach and Tallahassee) did not report any damages to their churches or to their parishioners; THEIR NEIGHBORS NEED OUR HELP. The main request made by disaster officials is the NEED FOR INSECT REPELLANT for homeowners who have been flooded out of their homes. Apparently, the mosquito population is taking advantage of the excess water to increase their numbers and feast on our friends, therefore, repellant is especially important in protecting flood survivors from mosquito-borne diseases.

A Calendar of Prayer for the United Church of Christ contains stories from across the United States and from around the world that illustrate the depth and breadth of the mission outreach of the United Church of Christ. Globally, that outreach is done in partnership with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) through the common witness of Global Ministries. There are stories that reflect the rich diversity of our denomination as well. They are stories of local congregations, individuals, and faith communities from around the world that speak to the one church, the one body of Christ. A body that is covenantal, supportive, accountable, and welcoming within the world. We give thanks for the support that you have given to the church through your gifts of time, talents, and treasures. We give you thanks for your generous support of the special offerings of the church, as well as your support of Our Church's Wider Mission without which many of these ministries would not take place or be heard.
This edition of A Calendar of Prayer is produced as a gift for the church from the church. The stories are our stories of mission and ministry in Christ's Name. As a people who express a legacy of extravagant welcome, these stories serve as a sample of that unique gift that we offer as a denomination. We encourage you to read about the many ways that God is still speaking to and through us today.
We encourage you to use this publication in your daily prayer and meditation. Use it in any gathering of the church whenever you can. It can be used in morning prayers, when a congregation's staff meets, at a committee meeting, or at an Association or Conference gathering. We hope that the stories will be heard in many places and prayers will be offered for those engaged in mission, wherever they may be.
A Calendar of Prayer continues to be a reminder to us all that we are a united and uniting people, called to unflinchingly welcome all to this church. Let us be a church supportive of one another; celebrating the Gospel with renewed resolve and mutual support in our common ministry.
